Barriers to Love: Tape #2 of the Workshop in a Box Series (1999)

The Disabled Women’s Alliance presents this exciting and informative series of three videos that can be used separately or together.  Words from the Heart, #1, focuses on the influence of female mentors; Barriers to Love, #2, looks at what prevents or enables women with disabilities to finding loving relationships; and Violence against Disabled Women & Girls, #3, investigates the issues for surviving rape and domestic violence.

Walk This Way (1998)

Born with a congenital birth defect that resulted in the amputation of both legs at the age of 4, Ron Bachman subsequently trained to walk on full-leg prostheses.  Although he struggled with the cumbersome devices at school and in public for many years, he eventually decided he didn’t have to walk on legs just because everyone else did.  This is a frank and upbeat video about a man’s fight to live his own life, on his own terms.

Gary’s Story (1999)

This is personal story of a man named Gary, a quadriplegic, who experienced violence and abuse at the hands of his wife and personal caregiver for 20 years.  He tells his story to raise awareness of professionals and others with SCI.

Life is an Attitude (1997)

In this outstanding new video, Ron Heagy tell his tale of life with a high-level SCI.  After a catastrophic surfing accident, Ron chooses a life full of loving, art and involvement with other people.  This is an excellent film for use with newly injured people with high quadriplegia.  Ron is a great role model and provides a sensitive and heartfelt approach to living life to the fullest.
